As a child one of my most vivid memories was going to choose the Christmas tree, it was a huge tradition and the beginning of our family festivities.
The second biggest source of excitement was dressing the tree, and the grand finale that marked the completion of the whole ‘tree experience’ was adding the crowning glory, the cherry on the cake…the fairy!
Year after year she would be taken out of the cupboard, getting more and more ropey as the years passed. My mum and I would lovingly redress her in a white crepe paper dress, adding a tulle netting underskirt and she occasionally got new wings.
Sadly, in the end she was replaced by a more ‘modern’ star, I have no idea what happened to her, such a shame as she would have been a very special heirloom indeed, loved by my mum for quite a few years before I came along, but times change and in this case a tradition was sadly lost.
Her image lived on in my memory, and for well over 20 years I pledged that I would recreate her, even better and more beautiful than I remember, a new fairy and new traditions.
Then in 2019, I finally did it, I created my fairy, she is made up of vintage lace given to me by a close friend, lace from a collection I designed whilst studying fashion at art college, some glass beads from a necklace that belonged to my grandma, some vintage earrings given to me by another friend and her wings are made from a very old handwritten letter gifted to me by Robert Cain (The English Polisher).
And so, ‘Debbie’ was born! Named Debbie after a friend that I used to work with…who was the queen of zhuzh and detail!
I would like to invite you to come and join me and create your own fairy. A fairy like no other, filled with memories and meaning, adding to your Christmas traditions and an heirloom to pass down.
All the elements will be provided for you, but I would encourage you to bring along any keepsakes or trinkets that will make your fairy unique to you…she will be truly special and made with so much love.
We will have hot drinks throughout the day and take a break at lunchtime for a bowl of hot soup, artisan bread and homemade cake. We will toast our fairies at the end of the day with a glass of fizz.
This day you are gifting yourself will help slow down the pace of your Christmas to-do list, giving you time to breath, it will be a very special day and to allow me to help you individually it will be limited to only 3 spaces, I’m so excited to share this day with you.
